The Detroit Red Wings and Montreal Canadiens have never done this before
Authentic Lamar Jackson Jersey , and chances are, they will never want to do it again.
The Canadiens and Red Wings, who meet Thursday at Little Caesars Arena, will miss the playoffs this season. Since Detroit joined the NHL in 1926, nine years after the Canadiens were an original franchise, this is a first.
These two storied franchises had never missed the playoffs in the same season before. To say this is a record-setting performance that neither wanted any part of would be significantly understating the case.
“It’s not a fun feeling to get used to, and none of these guys are used to it
Cheap Connor Williams Jersey ,” Detroit defenseman Nick Jensen said. “In this organization, it’s got a winning atmosphere.”
Not so much lately, though. This will be the second straight season out of the playoffs for the Wings, the first time that’s happened since the 1981-82 and 1982-83 seasons.
“I have been a pro now for five years this is the hardest year I’ve had with not winning many games and not being in the playoffs,” Detroit right-winger Martin Frk said. “It is super tough.”
It’s been a decade since Detroit’s last Stanley Cup win in 2008.
“We need to be better as a team,” Wings forward Gustav Nyquist said. “That’s the goal, to get into the playoffs and make a run for the Cup.
“Obviously
Mark Lowe Jersey , I don’t think anyone in here is satisfied. You’ve just got to look yourself in the mirror and say you need to be better to get your team into a playoff spot.”
For the Canadiens, it’s the second time in three seasons that they’ve missed the playoffs. Although the Canadiens have won a record 23 Stanley Cups as an NHL team, they haven’t won the Stanley Cup since 1993, a quarter-century ago.
“This was a frustrating year, obviously, for the fans and for us as well,” Canadiens right wing Brendan Gallagher told the Montreal Gazette. “For fans
Paul Worrilow Jersey Elite , they’re allowed to be frustrated. For us, we can’t allow that to kind of thing to seep into our mindset. For us it’s about finding solutions.”
Thursday’s game does have draft lottery implications. The Wings (30-38-12), 26th overall in the NHL, who own a league-high 11 picks in the 2018 NHL entry draft, sit three points ahead of 29th-ranked Montreal (28-39-13). The Canadiens have 10 picks in the June draft.
The Canadiens have already indicated that general manager Marc Bergevin would return next season. While the Wings have yet to officially make an announcement regarding the future of general manager Ken Holland, whose contract is up at season’s end, there is strong belief in NHL circles that Holland will be back next season.
Three Red Wings will get a taste of playoff hockey this spring. Goalie Tom McCollum

The Oakland Raiders released pass rusher Aldon Smith on Monday after his latest run-in with the law.
The Raiders retained Smith's contractual rights even as he spent the past two seasons on the NFL's suspended list. But the team decided finally to cut ties one day after San Francisco police said authorities were searching for Smith in connection with a domestic violence allegation.
San Francisco police said Monday an arrest warrant has been obtained for Smith stemming from allegations that Smith assaulted a woman on Saturday night. Smith left before police arrived to respond to the 911 call and authorities are working with Smith's attorney to arrange a time for him to surrender.
Smith is facing misdemeanor charges of willful infliction of corporal injury, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, false imprisonment and vandalism, according to Sgt. Michael Andraychak.
Smith has been on the suspended list since November 2015 for violating the NFL's policy on substance abuse. The Raiders had signed Smith to a two-year contract before the 2016 season, but he never was cleared by the league to return from suspension.
Smith was one of the league's top pass rushers before off-field problems derailed his career. He set an NFL record with 33陆 sacks his first two seasons after being drafted in the first round by the San Francisco 49ers in 2011.
He helped the Niners make it to the NFC title game as a rookie and the Super Bowl the following year. But the off-field issues started mounting the following season when he missed five games to undergo treatment at an inpatient facility following a DUI arrest.
Smith was then suspended the first nine games in 2014 while serving an NFL suspension for violations of the league's substance abuse and personal conduct policies. San Francisco then released him in August 2015 after another drunken driving charge 鈥?his fifth arrest in three years.
He signed with Oakland just before the start of the 2015 season and had 3陆 sacks in nine games before being suspended again for at least one year.
Smith applied for reinstatement to the NFL in 2016, but that decision was initially deferred until the offseason and he never was granted reinstatement.
Smith has played 59 games over five seasons in the NFL with 47陆 sacks and one first-team All-Pro honor in 2012.
