Beitrag pass to Marcus Easley in the fourth quarter
Jimmy Graham scored two touchdowns, including a one-handed catch as the Seattle Seahawks beat the Buffalo Bills 31-25. The Bills put up a worthy fight, and could have won the game were it not for two big defensive plays in the final seconds. Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson looked healthy after struggling through the first half of the season, but it was Graham who stole the show with two scores and a first-half hurdle over Stephon Gilmore. In 140 characters... WATCH: NFL funnies & fails It was quite a weekend in the NFL with squirrels, a rabona, player ejections and length of the field MVPJimmy Graham showed the sort of form that made him the leagues most valuable tight end in his time at New Orleans. Graham averaged 13 yards a carry from eight targets, adding two touchdowns and a highlight reel of big game moments. Seattle Seahawks tight end Jimmy Graham makes a great one handed catch in the end zone. Video from NFL.com Game-changerWith a minute left to play, the Bills were 10 yards from stealing the game. In a big defensive spot, K.J Wright and then Cliff Avril registered back-to-back sacks on quarterback Tyrod Taylor, forcing Buffalo back. With no timeouts left, Taylor was forced to rush his fourth down, 17-yard attempt, resulting in an incomplete pass and a fifth win of the season for Seattle. Stat of the night12 - Russell Wilson has thrown 12 passing touchdowns without an interception when playing on Monday nights. Two of those, as well as a rushing TD, came against the Bills. Wilson took the ball the extra three yards to grab his first rushing score of the season, having been hampered by injury throughout the first half of the season. The Bills retook the lead on an 17 play, 10-minute drive completed by Justin Hunter, before Seattle pegged the visitors back early in the second quarter. Wilson utilised Lockett before firing to tight end Graham for a 17-yard, one-handed touchdown. Tight end Jimmy Graham celebrates after scoring a one-handed touchdown against the Buffalo Bills Buffalo responded with a field goal, but it was Seattle who struck twice to end the half 28-17 ahead. Following a 22-yard punt return from Lockett, Buffalo committed two consecutive penalties to move the ball 39 yards and allow running back Christine Michael a one-yard score. On their next drive, with just two minutes remaining Wilson led a 68-yard drive, finding Graham down the middle for his second touchdown of the night.Buffalo tried to get a field goal with seconds remaining in the half, but the officials failed to call a roughing the passer penalty on Richard Sherman, resulting in the Bills using an extra time-out and forcing Carpenter off the field for a mandatory play on the sideline.Head coach Rex Ryan elected to spike the ball, wasting a play but getting his kicker back on the field, before the Bills mismanaged the clock and then missed the 54-yard attempt. In a bizarre end to a great half, Buffalo Bills kicker Dan Carpenter is forced into three attempts at the field goal. Video from NFL.com It wasnt until the fourth quarter that Buffalo got the next points, Taylor leading at 82-yard drive to set up running back Mike Gilislee for a one-yard rush. Seattle responded with a 49-yard field goal, and managed to hang on despite sustained pressure from Taylor and the Bills attack. The result moves Seattle two games clear of the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC West, with a trip to New England up next. The Bills slip to 4-5 on the season, the same amount of wins as Miami despite playing a game more. This is their third consecutive loss as the team head into their bye week. And that left the 2004 Heisman Trophy winner worried whether his future with the quarterback-needy Bills will last past this weekend. "Its disappointing. You have an opportunity, and you go out there and you dont play as well as you want to," Leinart said after struggling in a 35-13 preseason-ending loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday night. "I was thankful to be here, and well see what happens. Obviously, after that performance it cant be anything good I would think. But well see." Coach Doug Marrone saw enough of Leinart to yank him after five possessions, and after the 2006 first-round draft pick threw his second interception. Leinart completed 3 of 10 passes for 11 yards, and looked very much like someone who had the benefit of just three practices since signing Sunday. Leinarts performance doesnt make it easy on Marrone when it comes to making his final cuts by Saturday. "Wed love to say, Hey, wed love to have had him for a couple of more days, sure, but thats not how everything played out," Marrone said. "Its not a great situation, but it is an opportunity." Bills general manager Doug Whaley told The Associated Press hell evaluate the game film on Leinart before making a decision. He then added: "Im sure (Leinart) is more disappointed than anybody." The Bills signed Leinart and acquired Thaddeus Lewis in a trade with Detroit on Sunday after losing their top two quarterbacks to injuries. First-round selection EJ Manuel is recovering from a left knee injury, and hasnt been ruled out to play in Buffalos opener against New England on Sept. 8. Veteran Kevin Kolb is out indefinitely with a concussion. And the news got worse for Buffalo (2-2). Marrone announced safety Jairus Byrd has a foot injury, and has travelled to North Carolina to be evaluated by specialist Robert Anderson. Byrd is a two-time Pro Bowl safety who missed the entire off-season before signing his one-year, $6.9 million franchise tender last week. And Buffalo lost veteran reserve guard Doug Legursky to what is feared to be a significant left knee injury. The mood was much better in the visitors locker room, where the Lions (3-1) made quick work of another AFC East opponent a week after a 40-9 rout of New England. The only complaint coach Jim Schwartz had was how diffficult it became to evaluate players with the Lions ahead 35-3 at the half.dddddddddddd. "We really needed to see some of those wide receivers," Schwartz said. "It was difficult because youre still throwing the ball when youre up by 32 points." With receivers Calvin Johnson and Ryan Broyles sitting out, Nate Burleson and Patrick Edwards had inconsistent outings. Burleson had a Drew Stafford pass go off his hands that led to an interception on the Lions first possession. Edwards dropped two passes from Stafford before scoring on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Shaun Hill. "If we were getting stopped, guys werent getting open or Matt couldnt get the ball off, thats when problems need to be addressed," Burleson said. "But from a physical standpoint, all we need to do as receivers is catch the ball." Hill and third-string quarterback Kellen Moore had two touchdown passes apiece. Hill also hit Kris Durham for a 6-yard touchdown. Both of Moores touchdown passes were to running back Theo Riddick. Joique Bell also scored on a 23-yard run. The only bright sign for Buffalo came about 90 minutes before the game. Thats when Manuel took the field and threw a number of passes. Marrone continued to leave the door open for Manuel to be ready for the opener. However, Marrone cautioned that the rookie out of Florida State will need to be practicing by Wednesday. The Bills are off until returning to practice Sunday. If Manuels not ready, undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel is in line to start. Since the NFL merger in 1970, no undrafted rookie has ever opened a season as the starter directly out of college. Tuel was given the night off because the Bills were wary of losing another quarterback to injury. Lewis fared slightly better than Leinart. He finished 7 of 16 for 132 yards, including a 79-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Easley in the fourth quarter. Leinart blamed himself. "I expect more out of myself," he said. "I have expectations for myself. Whether I was here for three days or three years, you cant do that." Marrone said veteran receiver Brad Smith is still being evaluated after hurting his ribs. ... Lions LB Jon Morgan did not return after hurting his shoulder in the second half.
