DETROIT -- Joe Mauer provided the early power, and P.J. Walters gave Minnesota the start it needed on that mound. Now the Twins can finally move on after an ugly 10-game losing streak. Mauer homered and had three hits, and the Twins snapped their skid with a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. Walters was solid in his first major league appearance of the season. He was called up from the minors before the game. "It feels good to get out from under that 10-gamer," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire, who was ejected in the third inning. "We got out to a quick start, and then we had to hold on for a long time against a really good team. Thats not an easy lineup to shut down, but P.J. did a great job. He got us deep enough and then our bullpen finished it off." Mauer had already earned the ire of Detroit fans when he broke up Anibal Sanchezs no-hit bid in the ninth inning Friday night. He was booed when came to bat in the first inning Saturday -- then booed some more after his solo homer to right field. The Twins scored three runs in the first, and that was enough. Walters (1-0) went six innings, allowing two runs and eight hits. Mauer had two singles to go along with his homer. "Mauer is Mauer," Detroit catcher Brayan Pena said. "Sometimes you make great pitches to him, and he still can hit you." Four relievers finished for the Twins, with Glen Perkins pitching the ninth for his ninth save in 10 chances. Detroits Doug Fister (5-2) allowed three runs and eight hits in seven innings. Jhonny Peralta homered for the Tigers. Gardenhire was ejected while arguing a call in the third inning. Mauers first-inning drive was ruled a homer, then reviewed because the ball bounced back into the field of play. A replay showed it hit the top of the wall in right, but may have also glanced off a railing above the wall. The call stood. The Twins werent done. After being shut down in Sanchezs one-hitter the previous evening, they broke through right away against Fister. Justin Morneaus RBI double made it 2-0, and he came in to score on Chris Parmelees single. Walters got out of a jam in the second when Andy Dirks struck out with the bases loaded. The following inning, Gardenhire was ejected. The Twins had men on first and second with nobody out when Morneau hit a grounder to first baseman Prince Fielder. He threw to second, and the Tigers turned a double play -- but Mauer, who had advanced to third on the play, was sent back to second because of an interference call. Josh Willingham had gone sliding into Peralta, the shortstop. Gardenhire came out to argue and was thrown out of the game by second base umpire Joe West. "His call was that he slid too close to the bag or something. He told me that he was protecting the defender, just like he had always protected me when I was playing," Gardenhire said. "I said Joe, I didnt play that much." Detroits Miguel Cabrera extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a first-inning single, but that was his only hit. Torii Hunter got the Tigers on the board in the fifth with an RBI double, but Cabrera struck out to end that inning. Peralta made it a one-run game in the sixth with his fifth homer of the year. "It was just location. I was able to keep the ball down on almost every pitch, and thats huge against that lineup," said Walters, who was making his first major league appearance of the season. "I got one pitch up to Torii, and I got another one up on the homer, but those were the only big mistakes." Twins centre fielder Wilkin Ramirez left the game after a scary collision on a fly ball. Omar Infante lifted a fly to left-centre in the sixth, and left fielder Willingham was under it when Ramirez came speeding over to try to make the play. Ramirez did catch the ball, holding onto it for the third out after colliding with Willingham. Ramirez remained down on the ground well into the break between innings. He was finally able to walk off under his own power, but when he got back to the dugout, he appeared to be flexing his jaw. What happened next came as a complete surprise. Light-hitting Alexi Casilla capped a five-run seventh with a three-run homer, and the Orioles broke a four-game losing streak with a 6-3 victory Tuesday night. Davis tied the game at 3 with his major league-leading 28th home run, a two-run shot. Casilla hadnt homered all season before crushing a pitch from Justin Masterson (9-6). On a team that leads the majors in home runs, contact can come from anyone -- even the No. 9 batter in the order. "That takes pressure off the big guys, to know that weve got other guys who can contribute, and do contribute," leadoff hitter Nate McLouth said. "Alexi came up huge tonight." Much to the delight of his teammates, who have come to appreciate the hard-working backup second baseman. "It was awesome," Davis said. "I think everybodys pulling for him right there, obviously trying, hoping that hell just get a base hit. Then he does that, provided a little bit of a jolt of adrenaline for everybody." It was Casillas first home run since August 8, 2012 -- also off Masterson. That was enough to end a four-game skid in which Baltimore lost three games to Toronto and another to Cleveland by a combined 29-15 score. "I feel great to hit that home run after we lost four games," Casilla said through interpreter Einar Diaz. "I felt like I had to come and do something for the team and I did it that time." Chris Tillman (9-2) gave up three runs, four hits and four walks in seven innings to win his fifth straight start. The right-hander is 6-0 in seven starts since May 19. He was in position to lose until Davis and Casilla went deep. "Awesome, awesome," Tillman said. "Last year, I think its every night, its somebody new, somebody else. Its good to see. This is a pretty tight-knit team and we enjoy seeing that. Its fun for all of us." Jim Johnson pitched the ninth for his 27th save. Jason Kipnis homered, walked twice and singled for the Indians, who were seeking a fourth straight road victory for the first time since April 2012. Masterson, whho was perfect through four innings, took a three-hitter into the seventh but ended up allowing six runs and six hits in 6 1-3 innings.dddddddddddd "Its a good lineup," the right-hander said. "Everything was working well through six innings. Unfortunately we got to the seventh. Then it wasnt working as well." The Baltimore seventh began with Masterson hitting Adam Jones with a pitch and Davis sending the right-handers next offering into the bleachers. After Matt Wieters drew a walk and Chris Dickerson reached on a check-swing grounder, both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Then Casilla cleared the bases. "When he threw the breaking ball that went to the backstop, now we have to play kind of halfway," Cleveland manager Terry Francona said. "He tried to be fine and threw a breaking ball to Casilla that was in the middle of the plate." And although Casilla had only 11 career homers -- now an even dozen -- he put a good enough swing on the slider to put it in the seats. "Thats what we talked about before the series to all our pitchers," Francona said. "When you let them get their arms extended, especially in this ballpark, they are very dangerous 1 through 9." Cleveland used a single, two walks and a sacrifice fly by Michael Brantley to go up 1-0 in the first inning. In the second, the Indians put runners at the corners with no outs but could not score. After allowing six of the first 12 Cleveland batters to reach base, Tillman retired the next six in a row. The streak ended in the fifth inning, when Michael Bourn led off with a double and Kipnis hit a 3-1 pitch into the left-field seats. Baltimore got a run back in the bottom half. Jones singled, took third on a single by Davis and scored on a grounder by J.J. Hardy. NOTES: Cleveland dropped to 11-2 on the road when leading after six innings. ... Jason Hammel, whos 0-3 with a 6.20 ERA lifetime against the Indians, takes the mound for the Orioles on Wednesday night. Scott Kazmir will pitch for the Indians. ... The Orioles signed their top two draft picks, RHP Hunter Harvey and OF Josh Hart. ... Clevelands Mike Aviles snapped an 0-for-17 skid with a first-inning single. ... Masterson and Tillman both yielded home runs for the first time since June 9. Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '
